Brand Story

Manumax draws its identity from one of Oceania's most prized natural ingredients: Manuka honey. Produced by New Heaven and New Earth Ltd in New Zealand, the brand was built on the premise that the remarkable properties of Manuka honey — long treasured by New Zealand's indigenous Maori people — could be harnessed for modern skincare and personal care products.

Manuka honey is no ordinary honey. It contains methylglyoxal (MGO), a compound found almost exclusively in the nectar of the Manuka bush (Leptospermum scoparium). MGO has been studied extensively for its biochemical activity and the New Zealand UMF Honey Association rates Manuka honey by its MGO content.

The brand's product range applies these naturally-occurring honey-based ingredients to everyday personal-care products. The Fish Oil Ice Mist Spray combines deep-sea fish oil with bladder wrack seaweed extract and sodium hyaluronate in a spray format. The Lavender & Manuka Shower Gel uses Manuka honey alongside natural lavender essential oil in a pH 5.5 formula. The Manuka Honey Face Mask blends honey with goat milk, tea leaf extract and hyaluronic acid.

Every Manumax product is formulated to be gentle for sensitive and dry skin. Products are skincare and personal-care items only — they are not registered therapeutic goods and are not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent any medical condition.

Why Manuka Honey

The science behind New Zealand's most treasured natural ingredient.

Methylglyoxal (MGO)

Manuka honey contains MGO — a compound almost exclusive to the Manuka bush. MGO content is the basis for the New Zealand UMF Honey Association's grading system; manuka honey is rated by MGO concentration.

Skin-Friendly Composition

Manuka honey's natural composition is widely studied in cosmetic chemistry for its skin-compatible profile. Manumax uses it in cosmetic formulations only.

Deep Moisture

Honey is a natural humectant, drawing moisture from the air into the skin. Manuka honey's composition makes it useful for sustained hydration in skincare formulations.

Gentle on Sensitive Skin

Manumax formulas are designed to be gentle, suitable for sensitive and dry skin types. Patch test before first use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What MGO rating do Manumax products use?
Manumax skincare formulations target the MGO 400–550 range (equivalent to UMF 13+ to 16+). This is the practical sweet spot for cosmetic inclusion — high enough to provide a meaningful active honey content in a leave-on or wash-off product, while keeping the finished product at an accessible price point. Higher MGO grades (800+) are typically reserved for registered therapeutic-goods applications.
Is Manumax manuka honey from New Zealand or Australia?
Manumax sources UMFHA-certified manuka honey from New Zealand apiaries — the traditional and most-scientifically-studied origin for Leptospermum scoparium honey. New Zealand produces roughly 80% of the world's manuka honey by value. The brand is manufactured in New Zealand under GMP by New Heaven and New Earth Ltd.
Can I use Manumax products if I have a bee allergy?
If you have a confirmed allergy to bee stings, honey, or propolis, avoid manuka honey skincare. The allergen is the honey proteins themselves, not just the sting. For the 1–3% of the population with bee product sensitivity, patch test any new product on a small area first and discontinue if any reaction occurs.
How does Manumax differ from supermarket manuka honey products?
Supermarket "manuka blend" products often blend actual manuka with cheaper clover or bush honey to hit a price point — the MGO rating gets diluted proportionally. Manumax uses 100% manuka honey at a specified MGO grade across its product range, and the formulations (shower gel, face mask, ice spray) are designed to preserve the MGO activity through to point of use rather than simply adding honey flavour.
What is the shelf life of manuka honey skincare?
Properly formulated and packaged, manuka honey skincare has a 24-month shelf life unopened and 6–12 months once opened (depending on the format). Manumax uses UV-protected packaging and nitrogen-flushed filling to slow MGO degradation. Check the batch date code on each product.
Are Manumax products suitable for babies?
Our Shower Gel and Face Mask are formulated for teen and adult skin. Infants under 12 months should not be exposed to honey products in any form due to the theoretical risk of infant botulism from honey spores. For children over 12 months, the products are safe for the external body but patch testing is always recommended.
